Will a Box Spring Fit Through the Door?

Measure the rigid foundation, the narrowest opening, and the turns between them. Width alone rarely tells the whole story.

Will a Box Spring Fit Through the Door?

Measure three things

Measure the box spring width, length, and depth. Then measure the clear width and height of each doorway after accounting for the door itself, handles, trim, and any fixed obstruction. Finally, look at the turning space before and after the opening.

Find the real bottleneck

A box spring may pass through a door but fail at a stair landing or ninety-degree hallway turn. Trace the full route to the outside. Note ceiling height on stairs, handrails, light fixtures, and the space needed to rotate the item.

Check whether it is split

King foundations are often made as two narrower pieces, while other sizes may be one rigid unit. Do not assume a foundation folds because the mattress bends. Check the construction tag or look underneath without cutting the fabric.

Useful measurement note

Record item dimensions, narrowest clear opening, tightest turn, number of steps, and distance to the loading point. Photos can help a provider assess the route, but only send them through an approved channel.

When not to force it

Stop if the item catches on a rail, fixture, or wall. Forcing a rigid foundation can damage the home or expose staples and wood. A removal provider can review another route or discuss safe next steps.
